Segmenting Simplified Surface Skeletons

چکیده
A novel method for segmenting simplified skeletons of 3D shapes is presented. The so-called simplified Y-network is computed, defining boundaries between 2D sheets of the simplified 3D skeleton, which we take as our skeleton segments. We compute the simplified Y-network using a robust importance measure which has been proved useful for simplifying complex 3D skeleton manifolds. We present a voxel-based algorithm and show results on complex realworld objects, including ones containing large amounts of boundary noise.

Patch-type Segmentation of Voxel Shapes using Simplified Surface Skeletons
We present a new method for decomposing a 3D voxel shape into disjoint segments using the shape’s simplified surface-skeleton. The surface skeleton of a shape consists of 2D manifolds inside its volume. Each skeleton point has a maximally inscribed ball that touches the boundary in at least two contact points. A key observation is that the boundaries of the simplified foreand background skeleto...
متن کاملMean Curvature Skeletons
Inspired by recent developments in contraction-based curve skeleton extraction, we formulate the skeletonization problem via mean curvature flow (MCF). While the classical application of MCF is surface fairing, we take advantage of its area-minimizing characteristic to drive the curvature flow towards the extreme so as to collapse the input mesh geometry and obtain a skeletal structure. By anal...
متن کامل3D Reconstruction of Retinal Blood Vessels from Two Views
A 3D reconstruction of retinal blood vessel trees using two views of fundus images is presented. The problem addresses: 1) The recovery of camera-eye model parameters by an self-calibration method. The camera parameters are found via the solution of simplified Kruppa equations, based on correspondences captured by hand from four different views. 2) The extraction of blood vessels and skeletons ...
متن کاملRobust segmentation of voxel shapes using medial surfaces
We present a new method for robustly decomposing a 3D voxel shape into disjoint segments using the medial surface, also called surface skeleton. The boundaries of the simplified foreand background skeletons map one-to-one to increasingly fuzzy, soft convex, respectively concave, edges of the shape. Using this property, we build a method for segmentation of 3D shapes which has several desirable ...
متن کاملComputing Curve Skeletons from Medial Surfaces of 3D Shapes
Skeletons are powerful shape descriptors with many applications in shape processing, reconstruction and matching. In this paper we show that in 3D, curve skeletons can be extracted from surface skeletons in the same manner as surface skeletons can be computed from 3D object representations. Thus, the curve skeleton is conceptually the result of a recursion applied twice to a given 3D shape. To ...
